The Onion

If anyone is planning on being in Chicago this spring, take a walk on Michigan Ave!!

My sister won an internal design competition at work - OWP/P architects - and she entered a kinetic sculpture design exhibition with 16 other architecture firms. The 'Greater North Michigan Ave Association' choose her design rendering as advertisement on the bus stops as well as banners that line the Avenue.

"Checagou" is the title of her piece - it is derived from the Native American word for "land of the wild onion." The sculpture is inspired by the form of an onion and its layers... She worked with a welder and a steel fabricator to construct and install the piece as it is made of carbon steel (22 gauge). The sculpture is also a model of how wind turbines can be made beautiful and sustainable.
